Below is a list of local and national college scholarships that are available to all students. Students and parents/guardians should visit the individual sites for “school specific” scholarships.
Walsh University Founder’s Scholarship
The Founder’s Scholarship is awarded each year to a student from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Recipient must have a 3.75 GPA and a 25 composite ACT score. Seven Seventeen Credit Union Scholarship
Seven Seventeen Credit Union awards eight $1500 scholarships each spring to members of their credit union or to legal dependents of a Seven Seventeen member. All information regarding these scholarships can be found on their website at www.sscu.net/scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to students planning on attending Youngstown State University, Akron University and Kent State University.
Fourteenth Annual National Co-op Scholarship Program
This national scholarship program, on behalf of the nine partner institutions, is pleased to announce and sponsor its Twelfth Annual National Co-op Scholarship Program. As the largest independantly sponsored merit co-op scholarship program in the U.S, they will award 160 merit co-op scholarships for a total value of $4,100,000. Partnering colleges are Clarkson University, Oswego State University, Drexel University, University of Cincinnati, Johnson and Wales University, University of Massachusetts Lowell, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technolgy. Canton Student Loan Foundation
The Canton Student Loan Foundation provides low interest student loans to Stark County graduates who have and maintain at least a 2.00 GPA and who are pursuing post high school education or training on a full-time basis. Qualified applicants can borrow $3,000 each academic year up to a total loan of $12,000. For additional inforrmation please visit their website at www.cantonstudentloan.org.
The Student Loan Foundation of North Canton
The Student Loan Foundation of North Canton is a non-profit organization that makes financial assistance for higher education available to students in our community. Based on availability of funds, the Foundation grants loans to the most deserving applicants based on need, scholastic ability, and character. An applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident of the North Canton City School District at the time of application and must be accepted as a full-time student by a college or accredited educational institution of higher learning. The Mensa Foundation scholarship will award scholarships again this year, based on an essay competition. They typically award one scholarship of $2,000 in their local area, and qualified entries from the local area will compete for amounts up to $1,000 regionally and nationally. Contestants do not have to be members of Mensa and winners will need to provide proof of enrollment in a degree program at an accredited institution of post-secondary education. National Society Daughters of the Revolution Scholarship
Each year the DAR awards obver $150,000 through more than 25 scholarships to young individuals for their outstanding academic achievements. DAR Scholarships are offered for a wide range of disciplines including history, law, medical, nursing, music, education and many more. The various DAR Scholarships each have different requirements and procedures which must be followed to apply for their scholarships. Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program
Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with their scholarship program each year. They will continue to award up to $1,000 to the winner(s) each year. Students must submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of their web site: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Full details are available on their website.
David Scholar Program
Check out the website for the David Scholar Scholarships, available at www.davidscholar.org. The David Scholar Program awards Stark County scholarships to high school seniors and is renewable for up to four years, provided the student maintains the requirements of the program. On average each year, 50 scholarships are awarded to Stark County high school seniors.
The Philomatheon Society of the Blind
Since 1978 The Philomatheon Society of the Blind has made a scholarship grant available each year for a qualified legally blind Stark County High School Senior or qualified former student. The grant is for $1,250.00 for each of two years of college or advanced training. Any legally blind high school senior or former student, who qualifies for such a grant, may apply to The Philomatheon Society of the Blind at 2701 W. Tuscarawas Street, Canton, OH 44709 or may phone (330) 453-9157 for an application.
Society of Plastics Engineers
For students with an expressed or demonstrated career interest in the plastics industry, the Society of Plastics Engineers offers scholarships with awards up to $1,000. Applicants must be seniors in good standing at a public or private high school or students in good standing at either a four year/two year technical program or Master’s/Doctorate Program. Seniors must show acceptance at a two or four year college. Application forms are available in the Guidance Center.
Burger King/McLamore Foundation
Gary Farey Endowed Scholarship at Walsh University
Eligible students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School with a GPA of 2.5 or higher that are planning on attending Walsh University may apply for this scholarship. Scholarship application is available in the Guidance Center.
The Negro Leagues Committee of the Society For American Baseball Research (SABR) is pleased to announce their essay-writing contest for high school seniors. SABR is a global team of almost 6500 individuals and over 30 research committees. The NLC is the only one of SABR’s committees dedicated to exclusively to the history of black baseball. Eligible seniors must carry a minimum 2.5 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school. Application materials are available in the Guidance Center.
