Crusader Alumni find success in collegiate sports

Crusaders continue to impress, even after graduation and we love to share our pride in them!

Our running program, cross country and track & field, is one of the best! Not only because of their success but because our coaching staff sparks passion for the sport. This school year, we had 10 Crusader grads sharing their talents on the collegiate level, an impressive number for a small, Catholic school!

Georgia Bentzel (’23) and Ethan Moorhead (’23) both ran for Walsh, Claire Eberhardt (’20), Barrett Scheatzle (’21), Max Grillo (’22), and Ian Paul (’22) all competed for John Carroll, Alyssa Mattis (’20) and Angela Maio (’20) took to the track for Otterbein, Brock Janowicz threw for Ashland, and Maddie Grillo (’20) ran for Slippery Rock.

Many of them had stand-out performances:

Maddie placed 3rd in the 3000 at the Steeplechase.

Brock was 6th in the hammer throw at the G-MAC Outdoor Championship.

Claire placed 2nd in the 1500 and 4th in the 800 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship. She was on the JCU 4X800 relay team which set a new school record. She also qualified for NCAA Division III nationals in the 1500!

Ethan was on the Walsh 4X400 relay team which placed 7th at the G-MAC Outdoor Championship.

Ian was on the JCU 4X800 relay team that won the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship and they set a new school record. He also placed 3rd in the 800 and 5th in the 1500 at the same championship!

Alyssa & Angela were both on the Otterbein 4X800 relay team that placed 4th at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship.

Way to go, Cru!
