Central Catholic High School, St. Paul, and St. Joan of Arc announce new band director

Central Catholic High School is proud to announce Tanya Eller as its new band director. Eller will also serve as a kindergarten through eighth-grade general music instructor and band director for St. Paul Catholic School, North Canton, and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, Canton.

Eller is a 2010 State University of New York (SUNY Fredonia) graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history. In 2013 she earned a music education certificate from Mercyhurst University. Currently, Eller is pursuing a Master of Music degree at Kent State University and is expected to graduate in August 2022.

“I am very excited to be a part of the CCHS, SJA, and SPS families,” said Eller. “I am excited about all of the music and memories we will make this year. My main goal for this year is to grow the music program and find creative ways to engage all my students. I believe my experience teaching K-8 music and my experience working with many different educators and students from all walks of life has prepared me for the diverse and wonderful student body here at CCHS, SJA, and SPS.”

Before joining the Stark County Catholic Schools (SCCS) family, Eller served as interim music and chorale director for Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School and Wilson Middle School and assistant director at Fort LeBoeuf Marching Band and Dinner Theater. She also was a music educator for Strong Vincent High School and Noble Academy Columbus and a music teacher for Enchanted Care Kids Campus.

Eller’s extensive experience includes organizing concerts, creating engaging music lessons and curriculum based on state and national standards, and crafting behavior management plans for individual classrooms. She has conducted musical and drill rehearsals and small and large ensemble rehearsals. She has experience in coordinating Tournament of Bands shows and auditions, fundraising, creating a select choir, and producing and directing a dinner theater. She is skilled in conducting one-on-one lessons with students and creating a safe environment for learning. She has taught piano, violin, and band, and prepared students for PMEA chorus and band festivals.

At Strong Vincent High School, Eller was responsible for planning and organizing the annual talent show and created the first independent study chorus and band for students who did not have room in their schedules to take ensemble classes. At Enchanted Care Kids Campus, she planned and executed engaging lessons for students aged six weeks to six years, both in-person and virtually, organized field days for students, and planned cross-curricular activities.

“We are excited to welcome Tanya Eller to Central Catholic, St. Paul, and St. Joan of Arc,” said Dan Gravo, president of SCCS. “Her musical experience is sure to lead our music and band programs to much success. Her leadership will and foster the God-given talents of our students and allow our Program of Arts to continuously prosper in our Traditions of Excellence.”
