Central Catholic’s Joey Mullen has signed his letter of intent to swim at Xavier University.

Mullen, who committed to Xavier in November, won a state title in the 50-yard freestyle at this year’s OHSAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships. He placed in the 100 butterfly at the 2017 and 2019 state swim meets and was named the Crusaders’ most valuable male swimmer four times.

“Xavier provides me with the school size I want in order to maintain familiarity with teachers and students,” Mullen said in a release issued by Central. “I like the swim team and coach at Xavier very much and I am able to maintain my religious-based education because it is a Catholic university.”

Mullen was named to the USA Swimming 2017-18 Scholastic All-American Team and the 2018-19 Academic All-American Swimming Team. He plans to study physical therapy and psychology at Xavier.
