STA Middle School Students - Don't Miss these Traveling Opportunities

St. Thomas Aquinas Middle School (STA) is proudly offering multiple enrichment opportunities for its students. This year, the school is offering several field trips for middle school students including one to Washington D.C., and another to Damascus Camp.

Washington D.C.

The STA 7th and 8th graders are set to travel to Washington D.C. on April 26-28, 2023 for three days of active learning in the Capital. This historic and educational trip is packed with museum and memorial visits, along with evening activities. Students will stand where Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his "I Have a Dream'' speech at the Lincoln Memorial, discover the meaning of sacrifice at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery, walk in the footsteps of our great leaders on Capitol Hill, and visit the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum.

In Washington D.C., STA students will also visit the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, which honors 184 victims of the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. The Jefferson, FDR, and Lincoln Memorials, the World War II Memorial, the White House, and Smithsonian Institution are also on the list of great museums the Knights will visit. Students will also visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial which is dedicated to the more than 58,000 men and women killed or missing in Vietnam.

For this special trip, all meals are included as well as a dinner at Medieval Times, and evening activities.

An informational meeting was held for the trip on November 2, however, it's not too late to register for the trip. Registration is due by Friday, November 11. For those who need financial assistance, or want to learn more about fundraising opportunities, please sign up at worldstrides.com/register using Trip ID# 206557 or contact Colette Hunter at [email protected] for questions or more information.

Damascus Camp

From April 19-21, 2023 the STA 6th graders will enjoy a two-night Damascus camp! This camp will immerse the Knights in faith while learning about science and nature. Students will experience hands-on lessons that make learning come alive, and students are invited to build a deeper relationship with God.

During this unique camp experience, students will take an interpretive hike to learn about physics, aquatics, geology, and wilderness survival. The 471-acre campus offers plenty of outdoor learning environments to explore, while experiential learning takes students to the next level with high-adventure activities. During their two-night stay, students will participate in hiking, campfire, rock climbing, science skills, daily prayer service, spiritual talks, and more!

"The STA 6th-grade team encourages all 6th graders to attend,” said Mrs. Fletcher, STA 6th-grade math teacher. “Damascus camp is a great place to build relationships with their peers, explore their faith, and learn about nature and science!"

Interested students should register by January 10. Registration forms can be returned to Mrs. Fletcher.
