Letter to our Parents: July 12, 2020

Dear Parents,

We are working to accommodate the needs of our students and staff as we reopen school on August 18. We need to know what your family plans to do so we can fine tune our plan.  One note, the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommends that children be in school if at all possible

Our two main concerns at this time are:

1. Masks
We will require all students to wear masks when entering the building and getting settled in the room. Desks will be spaced 6 feet apart so when they are seated at desks, they can take off masks. If working one on one with the teacher or aide or in small groups, they can put the mask on for short time periods. Students with medical needs that prohibit wearing masks will be excused with note from the doctor.

Adults will wear face masks or shields unless they have medical issues that prevent wearing a mask.

2. Some parents have expressed the desire for at-home schooling. We will offer two learning options:

        a. In class

        b. On-line, at home

Class instruction will be recorded and uploaded using an on-line platform. On-line students will view the video and any other videos the teacher includes in her lesson. On-line students will complete assignments using the virtual learning platform. Teachers will be able to grade student work and send immediate feedback. The children will be keeping pace as if they are in the classroom too.

For students learning at home we would like to keep them connected virtually with their classmates. They can attend scheduled Zoom times during snack breaks, project presentations, show and tell for younger classes, class parties, and any ways we can think of to keep them socially connected to their friends.

It is extremely important for us to know the needs of each family. PLEASE email me at: stjameselem@youngstowndiocese with your choice for your children: in class or at home. If you do not have email, please send a text to me at 330-323-6730. If you have questions or concerns please call me. Your questions are important to me.

My prayers are with you,
