St. Mary School Provides 14,000 Meals During COVID-19 School Closure

St. Mary Catholic Elementary School has been an integral part of the Stark County community since 1849, serving countless families from Massillon, Jackson, Perry, Canal Fulton, Tuslaw, and other nearby cities. For decades the school has had a reputation for offering small class sizes with a personal approach to education, family involvement, outstanding academic preparedness, and a healthy variety of student organizations and athletic teams for student growth. The school is also known for encouraging students to develop a strong moral character, with faith at the center of all that it does.

The school’s tradition for helping students develop a strong moral character is encouraged in a number of ways such as daily prayer, regular religion classes, weekly Mass, an ‘All in for Kindness Challenge,’ a long-standing Student Buddy Program which pairs older students with younger students for mentoring, and its focus upon service to others.

St. Mary’s staff stuck to these ideals even in the challenging times of COVID-19. Since the start of COVID-19, the staff has provided meal services to any student, from any school, from ages 0-18 multiple times a week. From the start of school closure until the end of May, St. Mary has provided 14,000 meals to students! A large number for a school known for being a small, close-knit community.

The school has extended its service to the community through July, continuing to offer lunches to any student, from any school, from age 0-18. There is no income requirement to receive lunches. Students will be given lunches for the entire week when they stop by the school on Mondays from noon-1:30 pm. Families can drive up to the glass doors, between the church and school, and meals will be delivered to their vehicles. The staff looks forward to serving the community! To stop by, visit them at 640 First Street NE, Massillon, OH.
