I am pleased to write this letter introducing myself as St. Barbara’s new School Nurse. It is especially exciting to return here as a staff member because my four brothers and I all attended St. Barbara. In fact, right across from my office there are photos of us from First Communion and our 8th grade graduation! Given the strong sense of tradition at St. Barbara’s, it’s possible I already know some of you or members of your family.
My family has always been a strong supporter of Catholic education, with the belief that Catholic schools best prepare students for successful, enriched lives built upon faith and concern for others. My mother, attended Mount Marie which later became Central Catholic. After graduating from St. Barbara’s, I attended Central Catholic High School. Both of my children attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Central Catholic High School, and worked for Central Catholic at some point in their careers. In fact, my daughter currently serves as the marketing director for Stark County Catholic Schools. My grandsons attend St. Paul in North Canton. We have a long, proud tradition of attending Catholic schools, spanning generations, and I believe Catholic education played a large role in any of the successes my family has enjoyed!
After graduation from Central Catholic, I went on to earn a nursing degree from Kent State University and I have been working in the medical field ever since. For nearly thirty years, I worked at Massillon Community Hospital (MCH). While at MCH, I worked as a floor nurse, an emergency room nurse and, eventually, served as the MedSurg Director. I left MCH in 2005 to pursue a life-long dream to be a travel nurse. I traveled the country and worked in the emergency room at a variety of hospitals for six years. In 2011, I accepted a permanent position with the Cleveland Clinic, first working in the emergency room and currently as a pre/recovery room nurse.
I will remain at the Cleveland Clinic part-time, working there on days I’m not at St. Barbara’s. From the time I was young, I knew I wanted to be a nurse and I have truly enjoyed my work in the medical field. I look forward to serving the community that played a vital role in my upbringing and to share my talents caring for the students of St. Barbara.
