St. Barbara Catholic School selects a new principal

St. Barbara Catholic Elementary School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Ally Alexsonshk as their new principal. The selection of Mrs. Alexsonshk is the result of a comprehensive search process in collaboration with Fr. Brian Cline, Fr. Matthew Mankowski, school parents, parishioners, diocesan administrators, and other stakeholders.

Mrs. Alexsonshk comes to St. Barbara’s from Regina Coeli Catholic School in Alliance where she has been teaching 4th and 5th-grade students for the past five years. Previously she taught at Welty Middle School in New Philadelphia. Mrs. Alexsonshk has more than eight years of teaching experience working in elementary, middle, and high school settings.

In 2020, she was the recipient of both the Diocese of Youngstown’s Golden Apple Teaching Award and was the Stark County Teacher of the Year for the Parochial East Region.

She currently holds a Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood Education from Ohio University and a Master of Arts in Education from Walsh University. She is continuing her studies in the Leadership Track through the Diocesan Cohort Program at Walsh.

In commenting on her appointment, Mrs. Alexsonshk shared several remarks. “I am excited to be joining the St. Barbara’s family. St. Barbara’s has a beautiful campus and it is clear that great care has gone into the school over its long history. I have a strong passion for curriculum development utilizing educational technology, so I am thrilled to see that St. Barbara’s is updated with the best teaching technology. I hope that my passion for spiritual and academic development, data analysis, and school improvement will help inspire our community. I look forward to continuing to strengthen the partnership between the school, our school families, the community, and stakeholders. I am confident that together we can provide opportunities and motivate our students to reach their maximum potential.”

Mrs. Alexsonshk lives in Canton with her husband, their two children, and their dog. They are members of Little Flower Catholic Parish.
