St. Thomas Aquinas announces Timothy Neary as the new principal

The St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School community is pleased to announce that Timothy Neary has been selected to serve as their next principal.

For the past six years, Neary has served as the Dean of Academics at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School (VASJ). Before taking the role at VASJ, Neary was the Director of the Marianist Urban Students Program for The Marianist Province of the United States. Neary’s classroom teaching experience includes stints at Horizon Science Academy in Dayton, Joyful Bilingual Kindergarten in Taicang, China, and John Hay High School in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

Neary has a strong foundation in educational instruction and administration. He earned a B.S. in Education in 2007 and an M.S. in Educational Leadership in 2016, both from The University of Dayton. Neary’s education extends to two licensures, a Professional Principal License for grades 5-12 and a Professional Adolescence to Young Adult License for grades 7-12.

“St. Thomas Aquinas is a place where members prioritize faith, academics, friendship, and spirit. It is my sincere belief that educating in the family spirit, striving for academic excellence, developing strong moral character, and building lifelong friendships are at the heart of Catholic education. Becoming a part of the Aquinas community is an honor. I have a strong commitment to Catholic education and, share the administrations' vision as to where Catholic education must offer in the future in order to maintain our reputation for high standards and life-long successful graduates,” Neary said.

President Dan Gravo shared, “We are excited to welcome Mr. Neary into the Aquinas family! In preparation, we’ve created transition teams to make moving from one principal to another a success. Input has been received from the staff at the high school, middle school, and administrative levels on ways that we can continue offering academic excellence, meaningful faith development, improved discipline practices, and outstanding student experiences.”

Gravo adds that Aquinas has many projects planned for the summer such as deep cleaning, an upgraded Mac lab with all new Apple computers, and installing a state-of-the-art projection system for students to engage in virtual learning opportunities. In addition, the school has expanded its partnership with Walsh University and Stark State’s College Credit Plus (CCP) programs.
