Delayed Start of School

Delayed Start of School

Dear Aquinas families,

It is our goal to offer our students and families the best experience possible at St. Thomas Aquinas. We must maintain the high standards that Catholic schools are known to offer in faith development, academic excellence, discipline, and student life. Those same standards apply to our building and facilities.

A great deal of work is being done this summer to realize those standards and it is our belief that we could use extra time to complete the tasks necessary to make this a great school year. We have decided that a delay to the start of the academic year is the best way to offer our students the superior experience expected of us. The first day of classes, for all students (Grades 6-12), will now be Thursday, August 26. We will use that extra time to complete a number of tasks.

  • Recently released federal funding opportunities will allow us to offer additional facility updates and technology upgrades. We want those enhancements in place for the first day of school.
  • This summer we are deep cleaning throughout our facility, every room will be emptied and cleaned. As a result, our teaching staff and faculty need extra time to prepare their rooms.
  • We’ve had many changes in our administration and staff for the coming year. These are positive changes and we move forward united in offering an experience based upon student success. In our efforts to equip all of our staff with the tools necessary for student success, we are holding additional professional development.
  • We are updating a number of technology platforms, new interactive boards are being installed, our Mac Lab is being updated, and hundreds of additional Chromebooks are on their way. Given the backlog in the tech industry, extra workdays will afford us the additional time for those items to be installed.

Starting school on August 26th will allow us to complete all of these necessary and exciting tasks. Please note, our delayed start will not impact the rest of the schedule, our breaks remain in place, as does our final day of school. New this year, we are offering a date for parents to enjoy a picnic with our administration and learn about the coming years' policies and procedures and a week-long open house for students to pick up their schedules, drop off supplies, find their classes, and prepare their lockers.

We look forward to greeting our students on August 26th and sharing with them all of the exciting changes and updates we’ve done over the summer. There has never been a better time to be #AquinasKnightProud!

Sincerely,
