Freshmen learn Crusader history

Crusaders in the Classroom...where faith, history, and tradition often intersect!

On their third day of school, every freshman walked to our outdoor Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, during their class period with Mr. Frangos, to explore the grounds and learn some Crusader history.

They met Mrs. Linda Miller, a 1977 CCHS grad and the head of our Grotto Committee. She gave them the history of the Grotto and allowed them to explore the surrounding grounds. Our freshmen enjoyed the visit. We hope it helps them take pride in the long history, faith expression, & traditions they've become part of when they became Crusaders.

Here are some of the notes that impressed them most: CCHS opened in 1905, pictures of the old building without the "new addition" and a different entrance, that 2,500 people attended the dedication of the Grotto in 1941, the list of stones in the Grotto including some from Lourdes where Mary stood, Nazareth, the Garden of Gethsemane, and Christ's tomb, the story of statues arriving months early which saved them from destruction in WWII, and they were intrigued to know that many features around campus are made possible with alumni support. Most importantly, they wanted to know how they could help support the Grotto! Their visit was a great reminder that Crusaders are connected throughout the decades.
