Service Opportunities

Students are asked to participate in service each year
Students are encouraged to give back as often as they can, however, each grade level is expected to complete a minimum number of service hours.
Freshmen - 10 hours
Sophomores - 10 hours
Juniors - 15 hours
Seniors - 20 hours

Students can find their own forms of service or we continually offer service opportunities, both on campus and off, that span a wide range of interests, time commitments, and availability.

Upcoming Service Opportunities

Ongoing - Stark County Humane Society - Stark County Humane Society, 5100 Peach St NE, Louisville, OH 44641 needs volunteers! Volunteers are needed to walk dogs and play with cats. Note this!! If you have never volunteered there yet and you are under 18, a parent needs to sign permission before you volunteer there. Once that is done, they keep those on file and you don’t have to do it again. If you are under 16, you cannot volunteer there without a parent being with you.

Ongoing - House of Loreto Retirement Home - This is an ongoing service opportunity meaning you can visit any day, any time. They do especially need help in the after-school hours serving dinner, 4:30-6:30.

Ongoing - First Christian Church - The RECESS program at First Christian Church in Canton underwent a name change and is now the RESPITE program. The 1st one this year is this Friday, October 6. These will be held on the 1st Friday of each month from now until May. Families with children with disabilities will drop off their kids at the church for a few hours in the evening. These nights are very rare opportunities for their parents to have a night off. Volunteers arrive by 5:30, You will be fed and you will babysit either a child with disabilities or their sibling. If you attend, you need to be able to stay the duration of the event, until 9:00. Because you will likely be assigned a specific buddy, leaving or arriving during the event causes confusion and can leave a child unsupervised. See GC to sign up and if this is your first time then there is also a parent permission form that must be done as well.

Ongoing - Community Closet/Meal at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - St. Paul's, directly across the street from St. Mary’s, needs help on the 2nd Friday of every month, from 4 - 6:30 pm. Helpers are needed to sort clothes for the Community Closet and serve the meal at the above time. See GC to sign up and for more details.

Ongoing - Habitat For Humanity - The ReStore on Raff Rd is now an ongoing service site for us. This means that you can go there to help when it is convenient for you provided you contact the person in charge of volunteers 48 hours in advance, which means 2 days or more ahead of time. See GC for the specifics and for a permission form that has to be filled out the first time you volunteer there.

Ongoing - Stark Parks - Stark Parks Youth Advisory Committee has monthly meet-ups for teens in our community to sit down with Stark Parks staff as we listen to the voices of one of our most valuable populations in our community, our teens. Students can expect to answer questions about things like programs they’d like to see in the parks, participate in guided conversations about the best way to share opportunities with them, and more. For each meeting attended, students receive 2 hours of community service/volunteer hours. The meetings take place on the last Saturday of each month.
