Alexis Perretta and Ian Paul Named Walsh University Scholarship Recipients


Central Catholic High School is proud to announce that two Class of 2022 seniors, Alexis Perretta and Ian Paul, have been named recipients of prestigious Walsh University scholarships. Perretta, who plans to study biology or pre-med, is a recipient of the Founders’ Scholarship. Paul, who intends to study biology, is the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship. Each scholarship is a competitive and limited full-tuition scholarship. The Founders Scholarship is awarded to a top scholar at each of the six Youngstown Diocesan
high schools each year. This year, Central had five eligible students qualify for the award from which Perretta was selected! The Presidential Scholarship is equally competitive, offered only to those who qualify and who interview for the Walsh Honors Program.

Alexis Perretta has a 4.58 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has received Central Catholic’s soccer academic award. Perretta was a Buckeye Girls State attendee. She is the co-editor of the school yearbook and a member of C.A.S.T., a community service organization. Perretta has played soccer and basketball during her high school career. She has earned her soccer letter the last four years, the 2022 Most Valuable Defender, and a 1-year basketball letter. Alexis is the daughter of Dana and Mark Perretta.

Ian Paul has a 4.5 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is the Vice President of the student body and a member of several clubs and organizations including C.A.S.T. and Latin Club. In addition, he is an altar server and Eucharist minister. Paul was crowned the Homecoming King and is currently the running club president. In athletics, Paul earn Academic All Ohio for track and cross country, All Ohio for track and cross country, and was on the State Champion 4x8 Relay team. Ian is the son of Jennifer and John
Paul.

Each student shared similar thoughts about Walsh University, that the university provides a great opportunity for success in college, with a tight-knit community, and strong science department.
