Aquinas senior Myers signs with Purdue University; Mitchell signs with St. Mary of the Woods

 
Lourdes Myers signs with Purdue University; Preston Mitchell signs intent with St. Mary of the Woods

St. Thomas Aquinas High School is excited to announced that senior Lourdes Myers has signed with Purdue University and senior Preston Mitchell has signed with St. Mary of the Woods. Myers will be a member of the volleyball team and will major in education while at Purdue. Mitchell will be on the track and field team and will study business administration at St. Mary of the Woods.

Myers has had many athletic honors during her high school career including being a four-year letter winner, 2016 Under Armour Phenom Volleyball Top 8 Score Board Leader, 2017 Elite Sports Ohio Offensive Player of the Year, 2017 High Performance OVR Team Member, 2018 High Performance USA National Team Select, two-time First Team All-District, two-time First Team All-League, 2018 Stark County Offensive Play of the Year Division 314, and 2018 All League Player of the Year.

Myers says that Purdue was a good fit for her because of “the education and athletic opportunities it offers.” She adds that she is excited to compete at a high level as a student athlete. “The Purdue coaching staff is absolutely amazing, and the volleyball players get along very well.” She has received a full tuition scholarship with the university. 

“Lourdes’ passion for the sport and her teammates is truly amazing,” said the St. Thomas Aquinas Volleyball Coach, Melanie Conley. 

Mitchell has maintained a 4.32 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society while at St. Thomas Aquinas. His athletic honors include being a two-time football captain, receiving first place at the NCL Championship in discus, was recently named a First Team Defensive Line Backer by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association (OPSWA) All-Northeast Inland District, and was a member of the 2019 Aquinas Football Team who advanced to the Division VII Regional Semifinals. He participates in the Aquinas Culture Club, Right to Life Club and has played three varsity sports during his high school career. In addition, Mitchell was an intern for the Stark County Catholic High Schools Business and Leadership Internship Program. 

According to Mitchell, St. Mary of the Woods, located in Terra Haute, Indiana, “was a perfect fit for him. He loves the campus and athletic coaches.” He has received a full tuition scholarship for his academic achievements and athletic ability.
