St. Thomas Aquinas is pleased to announce that Amy Gaynor has been selected as the new Aquinas Men’s Varsity Soccer Coach. Gaynor most recently coached Akron Firestone’s women’s varsity soccer team. At Akron Firestone, Gaynor led the team to its first post-season victory and second-round appearance in nine years.
Gaynor’s coaching career began in 2013 as the head coach for the Akron Metro Futbol Club’s men’s soccer team. There, she coached highly competitive and skilled high school men’s squads in the top divisions of the Greater Akron Area Soccer Association. Gaynor has previously coached athletes from U-9 through U-15. These programs have won multiple league playoff championships, multiple tournament championships, and were a perennial playoff contender. In addition to coaching for STA, she is running a training program for student-athletes looking to prepare themselves for their high school and college careers.
“I am excited to build a consistently successful team and a skill-based soccer program at Aquinas,” Gaynor said. “I look forward to leading the Knights to success through innovative individual and team training, personal and team goal planning sessions, and teaching the overall balance of being a student-athlete in a high school level environment!”
President Dan Gravo shared that, “Amy Gaynor is a great fit for our soccer program. She has ample soccer knowledge and skillsets and can foster individual and team culture aligned with the Aquinas mission of Truth, Scholarship, and Excellence. We look forward to the upcoming season under her direction.”
